Cllr Francis Timmons recently said “I attended a meeting in Newcastle recently and there was a lot of public anger from residents about a lack of a secondary school in Newcastle, the Minister of Education has decided a secondary school will be built in Citywest, this is unacceptable to an area that has grown by 46% in six years, there is just one primary school in Newcastle, many have moved to Newcastle and feel let down and angry about no secondary school in the immediate area.”
Cllr Timmons continued “Shockingly just twenty young people from Newcastle were accepted into Holy Family School in Rathcoole and up to ninety weren’t accepted, that’s a lot of kids with no local school come September.”
Cllr Timmons concluded “There is a crisis in education in our community and the Minister just won’t listen. It’s not good enough, this will be an election issue in the upcoming local elections and later in the general election”
