A new secondary school for the Citywest, Saggart and Rathcoole area will fill a huge gap for local families according to Minister, Katherine Zappone.
The 1,000 student school is due to open in 2020 – and has been planned after a national review to ensure that those areas with the greatest number of young families have enough schools.
Minister Zappone says she is pleased that her colleague the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, has accepted the very urgent need for a school to cover the local communities.
Minister Zappone added: “The need for a new second level school has been raised by local parents and families with me as a priority issue. It was clear to all who live in Citywest, Saggart and Rathcoole that the demand was there. Now I am glad that a population review by the Department of Education has confirmed this.
I also welcome the fact that a process will be run to establish parental preference for the patronage of the new school. Minister Bruton will also announce that a new online Patronage Process system is being developed. This new system will allow for more efficient collection and processing of parental preferences. Timelines on this project need to be met and I am asking that regular
updates are placed online for local people. It is important that we continue to plan for future need and continue to monitor population growth, in particular in communities with many young families such as those in Dublin South West.
