Local TD Emer Higgins has welcomed the upcoming launch of the S4 and W2 bus services as part of Phase 5b of the BusConnects Network Redesign, set to commence on November 26th. Higgins stated, “The introduction of the S4 and W2 bus services will bring notable improvements to Dublin Mid West. These new routes will help in reducing travel times and offer more direct journeys for our community.
“I particularly welcome the S4 bus route. This direct and convenient route runs from Liffey Valley Shopping Centre through Ballyfermot, Crumlin Hospital, Terenure, ending at UCD, will greatly benefit students in my constituency,” Higgins added.
Higgins highlighted the upcoming W2 service, which will connect Liffey Valley with Tallaght via Newlands Cross. “The expansion of the W2 service is a part of our continuous effort to improve daily commutes and access to critical city areas for our community.”
However, Higgins also acknowledged the ongoing issues with capacity on the C Spine from Lucan to the city centre. “While it’s positive that additional buses were added to the C3 and C4, we still need to address capacity challenges on the C1 and C2, especially during peak hours. Many Lucan residents are opting for bus and train travel, and our services must evolve to meet this increasing demand. I have recently met with the NTA to discuss these issues and am hopeful for enhanced services on these routes”, Higgins concluded.
As part of the BusConnects Network Redesign project, these initiatives reflect Fine Gael’s dedication to enhancing Dublin’s bus services in terms of efficiency and accessibility. In line with these advancements, routes 17/d, 18, 61, 75/a, 76/a, and 175 will be discontinued from November 26th.
