Further delays to Lucan pool as opening now scheduled for October

Lucan Swimming Pool

It was revealed at the July county council meeting that the opening of the Lucan swimming pool is now delayed until at least October. The update came as part of the Capital Projects Report introduced by the South Dublin County Council Chief Executive. This is the first public swimming pool to be built in Lucan and it has been marred by delays since construction started during the pandemic.

People Before Profit TD for Dublin Midwest Gino Kenny said: “The Lucan community has campaigned for decades to get a swimming pool built in Lucan. It’s absolutely crazy that they are still waiting for this much needed public amenity. At this stage it seems it would have been quicker to build an outdoor pool at the Lucan Weir instead.”

Councillor Madeleine Johansson commented: “It’s just unbelievable that we once again are being told about delays to the swimming pool. I’m also concerned about the operation of the pool in the future and the fact that the operation has been outsourced. I argued for the pool to be operated directly by the council to allow more oversight by elected officials.”
