Cllr William Carey has called upon South Dublin County Council and Green Isle Hotel to reinstate the old stone wall that marks the property line of the Old Naas Rd.
Following representations to Cllr Carey from individuals and residents groups in the Greenpark area (which adjoins the Old Naas Rd – Green Isle Rd), Cllr Carey has requested SDCC to engage with Green Isle Hotel, the owner of the property to reinstate the old stone wall that marks the boundary between the property and the road.
The call comes after Green Isle Hotel had carried out works to expand their car and truck parking area. Concerns were raised about the plans for the development when there was no sign of a planning application for the works being carried out. The stone wall is the last remaining indication of the old boundary line and as such should be reinstated.
“In recent years it would appear that no one has chosen to take care of the wall and it has been allowed to deteriorate through neglect and damage from traffic” said the local Clondalkin Councillor. He continued “This is a great shame as many locals still remember a family living in the cottage that was situated here. I believe this would also make the approach to the hotel a lot more aesthetically pleasing, and I am certain that it is in the Hotels interest to agree to this”. Cllr Carey added, there are many changes taking place around Clondalkin, but it is important that certain aspects of the old Clondalkin boundaries are maintained. The wall by itself may not necessarily be relevant, but it signifies the old route through Clondalkin. I believe should be preserved for this reason and we should try to keep the link with the past as much as possible”.
