On Monday 16 January, the Mayor of South Dublin County Council (SDCC), Cllr. Emma Murphy, officially turned the sod for the new Astro Pitch at Sean Walsh Park, Old Bawn in Tallaght. The Mayor was joined by Daniel McLoughlin, Chief Executive SDCC, Teresa Walsh, Director of Services SDCC, Staff of South Dublin County Council and guests to celebrate this event. Speaking at the event Mayor Cllr. Emma Murphy said “The provision of this facility delivers a key part of the Astro Pitch Programme and helps deliver South Dublin’s Sports Pitch Strategy. The provision of facilities will support the further development of Sean Walsh Park and complement the facilities at Tallaght Stadium; in line with South Dublin County Councils aim to support and promote the health and wellbeing of the people of South Dublin County.”
This project is funded by the Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage through the Urban Regional Development Funds which support ‘Project Ireland 2040’ and is also supported by the Astro Pitch Programme in South Dublin County Council’s three year capital budget. The Astro Pitch will be constructed by Premier Pitches Ltd. and works are due to commence shortly.
