The Mater Foundation is calling on people across the country to challenge themselves, get active and walk, jog or run 100 miles to raise vital funds for the Mater Public Hospital. Registrations are now open for this important challenge, which will run over the month of February.
The Foundation is asking for you to support the hospital’s medical staff in their mission to safeguard patients’ hearts by helping to fund life-changing and life-saving equipment and technologies to enhance cardiac care.
When you register, you will receive your own 100 Miles in a Month t-shirt and miles chart to help you track your progress over the course of February. Participants will be supported every step of the way by the Foundation team and will have the opportunity to join a special 100 Miles in a Month in February Facebook group, where you can connect with people across Ireland who have joined the challenge.
Your fundraising will allow the Mater Foundation to enhance the vital service the Mater Hospital provides to patients presenting with various heart conditions who need critical care and immediate cardiac procedures.
Having up-to-date equipment and supporting technology allows doctors and nurses to discuss critical care pathways and act in a timely manner to save lives.
Chris Gifford, who is currently a patient receiving cardiac care in the Mater Foundation, explains his motivation for taking part in this February’s challenge:
“I received a call not long before Christmas to say that I would probably have my procedure for a new pulmonary valve in the early months of 2023. I spotted this challenge on Facebook and realised that it could be a chance to give back to the team who have supported me – and who will hopefully save my life – in a constructive and public manner.”
Commenting on the challenge, Mary Moorhead, CEO of the Mater Foundation, said:
“At the Mater Foundation we are working to give every patient and every family who loves them, the very best of care at The Mater Hospital. By taking part in this challenge, you will make a real and tangible impact on the lives of our patients from all over Ireland. The vital funds you raise will be put to work where they are needed most to enhance cardiac services. Every project we support, and every advancement made with the help of the Foundation is only possible through the kindness and generosity of our supporters. Thank you to everyone who continues to fundraise, volunteer, and donate to support the Mater Public Hospital.”
