Local Clondalkin Councillor Francis Timmons recently commented ‘’Clondalkin Helping Homeless and those in Need has been assisting those in need since 2014, we have 3 core services we provide a weekly foodbank, FoodCloud and Tents/sleeping bags and supplies to those who need them, the services cover the Clondalkin area and are free and run by volunteers’’.
Cllr Timmons said ‘’The FoodCloud we get is mainly through Tesco’s in Clondalkin and Liffey Valley and according to the app we have collected more than 30381KG of food which is the Equivalent of 72882 meals and a CO2 saving of 97530KG while the figures and impressive the best thing is the food goes to help families who are struggling with cost of living, this food would have ended up in landfill but it is going to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society’’.
Cllr Timmons continued ‘’if you’re reading this and wondering how you can help, the most practical way is to do a food collection, we are always in need of food, tinned food, cereals, pasta, rice, coffee, tea and sugar are the most common items we need, you could also encourage your local school or a group you may know to do a food collection, we are always grateful for food’’. Cllr Timmons said ‘’We need volunteer drivers to collect and deliver food, if you can help please let us know, volunteers are vital to be able to provide this free service, maybe you have some spare time you could give to Clondalkin Helping Homeless and those in Need?’’
