Armenian baritone Grisha Martrosyan was the winner of the top prize in the tenth Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, worth €10,000. The Finals of the Competition were held recently in the National Concert Hall, where the 6 finalists performed with the National Symphony Orchestra. Second Prize went to popular Irish mezzo soprano Aebh Kellly.
The Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition is held every three years in Dublin. It was established in 1995 by the renowned Irish soprano and vocal coach Veronica (Ronnie). Dunne, who passed away in 2021, and has a prize fund of some €30,000
Speaking after the results the chair of the competition and president of Griffith College, Professor Diarmuid Hegarty said; ‘although it was a poignant moment to award the prize in the year after the death of the great Veronica Dunne, Ronnie would have been so gratified to see the standard which she insisted on upheld in the quality of each and every one of the competitors’
The winner 24 year old Grisha Martrosyan is currently a Studio Artist at the Mascarade Opera Studio in Florence, Italy, working closely with Head of Music Julia Lynch as well as vocal consultants Prof. Siegfried Gohritz and James Platt.
