The South Dublin Bereavement Network will host a public loss and bereavement information event on Monday 18th July, 11:00am to 1:00pm at Rosemount Family Resource Centre, Dundrum, Dublin 14. South Dublin Bereavement Network is hosting a free loss and bereavement information event for older people. This event is part of the bereavement in older age and compassionate communities. ‘Loss and Bereavement: supports available in South Dublin’ is a free loss and bereavement information event for people in older age who have been bereaved through any circumstance – through illness or sudden death; and may have lost a partner, parent, child, friend, sibling, work colleague or relative.
Although bereavement is a more common experience as we get older, the research tells us that older people may be more at risk of a negative effect. This is contrary to previous beliefs that older people will be more prepared for coping with grief because they have more experience of it. The cumulative impact of experiencing numerous losses can also have a negative impact on the older person. A compassionate community approach plays an important role in supporting anyone who has been bereaved. This includes compassion from family, friends and those we have incidental interactions with throughout our day, such as at the welfare office, bank or with a home care worker.
There will be representatives from a range of local bereavement supports at the event. Attendees can take away information leaflets about the services and, if they wish, can talk with service representatives about the supports they provide. This event is supported by Irish Hospice Foundation and funded by IHF’s Local Bereavement Development Grants. It is free to attend but booking is required.
