The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) is calling on young people aged 18 to 25 from across Ireland to apply to become Ireland’s UN Youth Delegate for 2022/2023.

The United Nations Youth Delegate Programme, coordinated in Ireland by NYCI with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs, will see two young people join Ireland’s delegation to the United Nations. The two successful young people will have the opportunity to take part in several intergovernmental conferences both in-person (subject to Covid restrictions) and online in New York, Geneva, and other countries as the Programme allows.

Valerie Duffy, NYCI’s Global Youth Work Programme Manager, explains: “We are looking for applicants from all around the country, so I would encourage any young people aged 18 to 25 to apply for this amazing opportunity to represent Ireland at the highest international level. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work collaboratively on the world’s most pressing issues. Young people in Ireland have a vital role to play in shaping the Sustainable Development Goals, and they are part of the first generation that can end extreme poverty and fix climate change.

“If you, or a young person you know, think you have what it takes to be Ireland’s next UN Youth Delegate, you have until June 24th to apply.”

Those interested can find out more and apply on www.youth.ie.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney, said of the UN Youth Delegate Programme:  “I’m very pleased that the Department of Foreign Affairs are once again working with the National Youth Council of Ireland on this initiative. It is vitally important that young people engage in the work of the UN and on the issues that affect us all. As Minister for Foreign Affairs, it’s encouraging to see the level of insight and understanding that young people have on issues both at home and abroad.

“Both Diandra Ní Bhuachalla and Treasa Cadogan have been exceptional ambassadors for Ireland as UN Youth Delegates and it’s been a pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with them. I look forward to continue working with Ireland’s future UN Youth Delegates in bringing the issues closest to the heart of Ireland’s youth to the attention of the international fora.”
