Launch of an Exhibition of  Artworks by Jonathan Wade held on Monday the 23rd of May at the Round Tower Visitor Centre -Brú Chrónáin, great artist who lived and worked in his studio in Clondalkin. Sadly however a motor-bike accident on the frosty Monastery Road  near Clondalkin on Sunday, 21st January, 1973, deprived Ireland of one of its most original artists. Jonathan Wade who was just 31 years old at the time, but he had already produced work of such amazing quality and variety that he was looked to as a future towering figure in Irish art.

Speakers at the Launch L/R: Jack Harte , Mayor of South Dublin County , Peter Kavanagh, and renowned artist Robert Ballagh.

This project was initiated in the New Theatre by the Director, Anthony Fox; with former teacher Jack Harte at Clondalkin’s Coláiste Chrónáin, Monastery Road, and  Wade enthusiasts, Pat Pidgeon and Paul Tuthill, who rallied to the cause; and between the four of them, have attempted to create a lyrical event , which they  hope the public will enjoy – enough to seek out more of Wade’s work. And they are delighted  to bring this project to Clondalkin where Jonathan spent his adult life and produced his work from a small studio on Knockmenagh Road.
