Located on the corner of Baggot Street Lower and Fitzwilliam Street, Thomas Rody Maher’s is now open for business.The former bar has gotten a new lease of life and has reopened as a neighbourhood pub, with the delicious addition of new casual dining brand MOM Chicken downstairs, and a DIME Coffee hatch to the side.
MOM Chicken on the Lower Ground Floor of Maher’s will dish up simple, succulent chicken in burgers or by the strip. Get your beak dirty and feast on a combo box with a crispy chicken burger or strips, fries, garlic Texas toast, and lashings of MOM Gravy.
Toppings are free, so pick your own for a cracking burger however you like it. Choose from smashed avocado, onion, lettuce, tomato, MOM sauce, honey mustard, ranch or cajun dressing, pickles, jalapenos, cheesy sauce.
Dine in and enjoy your chicken with a cool pint, or bring your bird home to roost with cluck & collect and delivery available.
Back up above, Thomas Rody Maher’s is open seven days a week from 12pm daily. The namesake of the venue is that of a previous tenant of number 43. A wine, wholesale tea, and spirit merchant, Thomas R. Maher traded for many years from this building. Next door at number 44, Elizabeth Leedon was the leaseholder, trading as a wax and tallow chandler according to Thom’s Almanac of 1862.
The previously abandoned listed building has been carefully restored, and the interiors of the new bar will take inspiration from both previous tenants, with nods to the intricate art of candle making helping to create an intimate and cosy space. A mish mash of salvaged seating, nooks, crannies, and a reclaimed back bar, formerly that of Jacobs & Company, all add up to create the perfect pub vibes. Every crevice is filled to the brim with glimpses into the building’s history, from tins of tea to flickering candles, as well as an original mural from the late Owen Walsh, a local artist who painted the piece in the 1960s and was uncovered during the renovation.
There will be a cracking cocktail menu as well as all the usual pub favourites of beers, wines and spirits. The south facing street terrace on Baggot Street will be the spot to nab on a sunny day, tucked in by planters and plenty of heaters.
A DIME Coffee hatch is open to the side of Thomas R. Maher’s, open daily from 7am serving custom blend DIME roast coffee and a selection of pastries and treats.
