Dublin Mid-West Sinn Féin welcome the news that Rowlagh Village has been included in South Dublin County Council’s development plan. Mark Ward TD and Cllr Derren O Brádaigh have been working on getting recognition for Rowlagh as a Village for some time. This recognition could lead to more investment and funding for the area.
Teachta Ward said, “I have been working on getting recognition for Rowlagh as a Village for some time. I was turned down in 2016 in the last county development plan, but I’m delighted that the Rowlagh will get Village status after an amendment to the County Development plan by Sinn Féin’s Cllr O Brádaigh “The area of North Clondalkin is over 40 years old. It has been an area of historical levels of disadvantage. Despite this the area has flourished over the years. “This is down to the resilience of the community who have had to fight tooth and nail over the years for some of the most basic needs, such as schools, community services and transport.
“The area that runs from Rowlagh Community Centre to the new North Clondalkin Library is a hive of activity. “This area has all the infrastructure that you would see in any village centre.
“I’m going to bring you on a virtual walk through Rowlagh Village. “Starting at the Dóchas Family Centre which is a project committed to supporting children who may have social, emotional, or behavioural needs. “Then you have Rowlagh Community Centre which was built through fundraising in the community.
“Then you have Aras Rualch which hosts CEEDS, the Clondalkin Centre for unemployed, Rowlagh Women’s Group and a Creche. It is also where my constituency office is. “There is also a number of very vibrant shops and other retail outlets including a pub which create a lot of local employment. “There is a health centre which is outdated but there is a campaign to get modern day fit for purpose Primary Health Centre “We then move onto the very modern building that is the Rowlagh credit union. “The latest jewel in the crown of Rowlagh is the beautiful North Clondalkin Library .
Cllr O Brádaigh said “This area has all the infrastructure that you would see in any village centre. I am delighted that Rowlagh Village has been included in the County Development plan as it was refused in in 2016. “Rowlagh is now recognised on the same level as other village in our constituency such as Newcastle, Rathcoole, Saggart, Palmerstown and Lucan “This recognition could lead to more investment and funding for the area but more importantly I’m delighted for the people of North Clondalkin who will see their village recognised.”
