February marked nine years since Specsavers opened up in the Mill Shopping Centre in Clondalkin, with many of the team that helped to make the launch so successful still working at the store today.
Optometrist Emma, who has worked at the store since the beginning, explained that staff and customers at the Clondalkin store have an incredible bond because they have been through so much together. She said: “The Clondalkin community is incredible, our customers are so loyal, and they really care about the staff here and we care about them. Like our community, we have all been through hard times recently and it has been a struggle through lockdown, but the people here have all come together to help each other over the last few years. I believe that people keep coming back because we go through the same ups and downs as they do, and our customers know and understand that.”
One of the biggest triumphs for the store over the last nine years has been the progression of the staff that have come through the doors according to Emma who is proud to mentor local staff in the Clondalkin branch. She said: “The staff here are absolutely fantastic. Since day one it has always been about how best to serve the community and the staff, most of whom live locally themselves, understood that immediately. Our store manager Sean Daly is a perfect example of this, he is always going the extra mile for customers.”
Sean started with Specsavers in 2013 without any experience and praised the company for helping him to achieve his career goals by receiving his qualifications and being mentored by management. Now Sean has become one of the most recognisable faces at the Clondalkin store, hand delivering glasses, contacts & hearing aids to grateful local customers throughout the pandemic. Sean said: “I think because we have sort of grown alongside the community, through good times and bad, that we all have such a strong bond. I’m proud to be part of this team at Specsavers and I am thankful for the opportunity that working here in the heart of my own community has given me. I am excited for the future!”
