New anti-ticket touting legislation will put an end to the price gouging of fans according to local Councillors Brian Lawlor and Baby Pereppadan. New legislation has banned ticket touting and the reselling of tickets above face value for large events including at Tallaght Stadium.
Cllr Brian Lawlor said: “A few weeks ago I attended Ireland v’s Portugal in the Aviva and it was the last match in that Stadium where ticket touts were legally allowed to sell tickets above face value. From now on consumers will be protected under anti-ticket tout legislation, prohibiting the resale of tickets above face value in big stadiums like the Aviva. We are all excited at the idea of getting back to matches, concerts, gigs and festivals but none of us want to see a rip-off prices for popular events. Thanks to this Fine Gael legislation fans not touts will get first dibs on tickets.”
Tallaght Councillor Baby Pereppadan commented that, “Fine Gael committed to bringing an end to the price gouging that had become the norm with the resale of tickets for large popular events and I’m really pleased that Tallaght Stadium has now been included under the legislation. With women’s soccer becoming more and more popular and with big matches selling out, it’s important that games remain accessible to local fans. The legislation means fairer access to tickets for sports and music fans, and less opportunity for touts to profiteer on the resale of tickets. It is good news for fans, for clubs and sporting bodies, for event organisers, for artists and for entertainers, and I welcome the progress that we’ve made in Government in this area.”
