On Saturday the 9th October People Before Profit launched their new local area rep Darragh Adelaide at the Bawnogue Shopping Centre. Darragh, a native of Clondalkin, was joined by Gino Kenny TD, Cllr Madeleine Johansson and family and friends at the small outdoor event.
Darragh was selected by the People Before Profit branch to represent the party in the Clondalkin area at the next local election. He is currently studying at DCU and wants to be a voice for workers and students in the area. Darragh wants to fight for:
• An end to the housing crisis by building public housing on public land, rent controls, and banning vulture funds
• Free and frequent public transport to cut down on traffic and carbon emissions
• Better funding and easier access to mental health services
• Increased college and apprenticeship places and abolishing fees
• Making the minimum wage a living wage
Darragh commented: “I am honoured to have been selected to represent the Clondalkin area for People Before Profit. For years I have watched our community be neglected by consecutive Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael Governments. I have seen the crippling effects of austerity and cuts on my community. We have lost funding for mental health services, seen skyrocketing rents and house prices, and have watched as hospital waiting lists have gotten longer and longer. We deserve better.” “As a socialist, I believe that real change has to come from regular people standing up for their communities. Over the last decade, we have seen fundamental changes in Irish society come from mass movements and people power, from scrapping water charges, to marriage equality, to repealing the 8th.”
Gino Kenny TD added: “I’m delighted to have Darragh Adelaide working alongside myself, Cllr Madeleine Johansson and People Before Profit members in Clondalkin. Darragh is a committed activist and socialist who will stand up for ordinary people in the community.”
