Housing meeting sees good turnout and valuable contributions

SDCC Housing

TD for Dublin South West Seán Crowe has said that the meeting to discuss the housing crisis and how it affects the Dublin South West area recently was highly informative and saw a great turn out.

Speaking after the online meeting Teachta Crowe said: “Joined by Eoin Ó Broin TD and Senator Lynn Boylan, I hosted an online local meeting to discuss the housing crisis and how it affects the wider Dublin South West area. I am pleased to say that it had a great attendance and we heard valuable contributions from not only elected representatives, but members of the public who shared their experiences and the difficulties they faced in trying to secure a home for their families.

“We need a fundamental change in both policy and funding, and I do not believe the political will currently exists within Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Greens to do what is necessary. “The biggest failure of government has been its refusal to invest in large scale affordable cost rental to meet the needs of workers and families in our cities. “Sinn Féin, unlike this government, has a funded plan to deliver the social, affordable rental and affordable purchase homes people so desperately need.

“The only way to tackle the affordable housing crisis is to fund local authorities, approved housing bodies and community housing trusts to deliver affordable homes to rent and buy at scale. “The State needs to commit to far more public housing. If Sinn Féin was in government, we would double capital investment in social and affordable public housing.”
