Emer Higgins Lucan

Local Fine Gael TD, Emer Higgins, has welcomed the announcement of a €20m investment into sports clubs, parks, public areas and water related projects across South Dublin.

“South Dublin County Council has announced a staggering €20m in investments into our local area. Almost half of that will go in to developing two new parks in Lucan – Arlie Park and Tandy’s Palr. The Council has published an ambitious €2m plan to revamp Lucan Village by investing in the Weir, Village Green, Lucan Demense and the creation of a new cycle way linking the Grand and Royal Canals. Over €100,000 will also be invested into Griffeen Valley Park which will mean new paths and a new bridge near the playground, an extended dog run and new kissing gates at Hayden’s Lane carpark. Almost €30,000 is being made available to local sports clubs and community groups across Saggart, Rathcoole, Newcastle, Clondalkin, Lucan and Palmerstown. Clubs like St. Mary’s, St. Finian’s and Rathcoole Athletics will all benefit from these grants as well as Esker Celtic and Lucan United to name but a few,” explained Emer Higgins who served on South Dublin County Council for nine years.

“Corkagh Park is also set to get a significant injection of cash to help improve paths and cycle ways. Rathcoole Park will get its own dog run. Over a €1m will go towards providing Sports Pavilion’s in both Griffeen Valley Park, something Fine Gael has been campaigning for, for a number of years. Corkagh Park is also due to get an allotment while fallen trees along the Camac will be tackled as part of this funding too,” continued Deputy Emer Higgins.

“It’s great to see this level of investment into our local communities and our local areas. During lockdown we’ve all become more acquainted with our 5k radius and I think everyone will welcome this positive news for our local area,” concluded Emer Higgins T.D.
