Sinn Féin have recently co-opted Derren Ó Bradaigh onto South Dublin County Council for the North Clondalkin-Palmerstown-Fonthill LEA. The co-option was required following the resignation of Cllr Lisa Kinsella Colman for health reasons.
Cllr Ó Bradaigh said: ‘It is a real honour to have been nominated by party colleagues to replace Lisa Kinsella Colman as a Councillor for the North Clondalkin-Palmerstown-Fonthill LEA. Lisa was and continues to be a community activist. During her time on the Council she worked tirelessly for the local community. I have no doubt she will continue to do that through her involvement in a variety of community initiatives. I wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to working with her in the future.
‘Sinn Féin has a strong record on South Dublin County Council campaigning for greater investment in much needed community services, social and affordable housing and for social justice. I look forward to working with the Sinn Féin team to further these objectives.
‘As a republican I am also keen to advance the conversation on Irish Unity within the Council Chamber. A united Ireland benefits us all and now is the time to be discussing and debating these benefits so that when a referendum is held people are fully equipped with the facts. I believe in both growing and forging working relationships, if not actual alliances, where those mutual engagements benefit our shared communities.’
