On Thursday the 3rd of December, dancers and performing artists gathered to protest outside Leinster House to highlight a very important issue.

Newsgroup spoke to local dancers at Steptacular Performing Arts prior to protest, they have children from Tallaght and Templeogue who would normally be attending classes.

The dancers and performers, dressed in black with masks adhered to social distance while meeting Senators and T.D.’s to speak about the issue including local TD Emer Higgins.

Dublin Mid West TD Emer Higgins raised the issue in the Dail shortly after and could confirm the following “Dancers and performing artists are allowed practice indoors in “pods of 1” once they maintain at least 2m distance. The Sport Ireland guidance for indoor training will be extended by the Arts Council to cover the performing arts. This means children across Ireland can get back to their passion.

The TD continued “Thank you to Catherine Martin T.D. who agreed to my request to treat children who dance equally to children who play sport. The Minister has given our children back their rhythm. Thank you to everyone who chatted with me at the socially distant protest. I promised to advocate for you and I promise you’ll always have a friend of the performing arts in me!”
