The Four Districts Woodlands Group are disappointed at An Bord Pleanala approval of Romeville Development adjacent to Woodlands in Rathcoole.
As per statement on the Four Districts Woodlands Group facebook the group says “An Bord Pleanala (ABP) granted permission for 204 residential units on a site adjacent to the Woodland. The ABP Inspector’s report acknowledged a submission noting an area of the woodland habitat corresponding to ‘Priority Annex 1 Habitat to 91EO Alluvial Forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior as listed under the EU Habitats Directive. However, it was noted that the Woodland is not in a Special Area of Conservation, and therefore an Appropriate Assessment is not required. South Dublin County Council also listed the submission and made no further comment”. The statement continued “We hope that the development of this site adjoining the Woodland will not adversely affect its integrity. Despite referring to submissions noting discrepancies in the identification of streams, referencing springs, and noting that most of the rainfall flows overland with little going to groundwater, no connection was made to the Alluvial habitat. Alluvial habitat is water dependent and occurs where there is periodic flooding or wet conditions”.
The Decision date is 12/11/2020 and can be the subject of a judicial review within 8 weeks of the decision. Pleanála: 307698: Site located to the east of Stoney Hill Road and comprising an existing undeveloped portion of the Peyton Residential Estate located to the west of the existing roundabout north of Stoney Hill Road, Rathcoole, Co.
