“I was just f**king knocked out.” –— Glen Hansard “Few possess such rare talent, and we can only advise you to keep an eye — and both ears — on [him].” – Rolling Stone “Irelish real storytelling in music, and this album is exemplary throughout. Comparing Paddy to Hozier feels like a cheap shot, but they share a similar passion and honesty. ” – Musicnews.com |
Paddy Dennehy is a Cork-based musician whose blues-tinged song writing has earned him renown across Ireland. He began performing in2013 and made quite the first impression: his first gig in Dublin was on the Late, Late Show; his first gig with a band was at Electric Picnic; and his first gig in Cork was at the personal invitation of Glen Hansard to join him on stage at Everyman Theatre to sing ‘Hard Times’. His debut album ‘Little Light’ was released in May and it had been a long time coming. “S now Song “ was written on the first, freezing night of Storm Emma. I had just come back inside after failing miserably to go out for a walk. It wasn’t the black ice or the cold that stopped me. I had barely set foot outside my door when I saw a couple having a snowball fight. At this point my girlfriend had been away travelling for a few months. I could handle not sharing the everyday stuff but not being able to crunch around in the snow together seemed to be particularly cruel. This song is my little expression of longing and loneliness in her absence. I’m delighted to be able to release this song before Christmas, not for the obvious festive connotations that come with the title but because that everyone has someone they miss at this time of year.” – Paddy Dennehy |
