Dublin Family Take Part in ‘What Planet Are You On?’

What Planet Are You On Dublin Family

The Yeboah family, from Kinsealy, North Dublin will feature on What Planet Are You On? on every Sunday, RTÉ One at 6.30pm. The series will be on for another three weeks and with the final episode airing on the 11th of October.

Fred (39) Yeboah and Denise O’Connor (40) live in Kinsealy with their two children – nine year old Annabelle and five year old George. Fred is originally from Ghana and now works in distribution in Lidl. Denise is a lecturer in Colaiste Dhulaigh. They see themselves very much as a typical family who care about the environment in an abstract way but don’t really bother too much about the specifics.

Fred in particular is a big meat eater – for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The rest of the family follows suit. They also consume a lot of dairy and about 40 eggs a week. Denise loves a nice bath and all the family members like showers. Fred often has a couple a day and Annabelle’s daily showers almost always run to more than 15 minutes long. They use communal bins in their housing estate but not the brown bin. Denise is a bit squeamish about insects and vermin and just doesn’t like the idea of it. The good news is that their house has an A3 energy rating, helped in large part by solar panels on the roof. They have two cars, despite the fact that Fred has a short journey to work.

The current series of What Planet Are You On? returns to RTÉ ONE on Sunday evenings at 18.30.

The world is heating up at a dangerous pace. So four Irish families are taking on ONE BIG challenge. To change the way they live and reduce their carbon footprint. The family that reduces its on the environment the most wins 5000 euro. The dedicated team of data experts will monitor all four families, around the clock, over four weeks. Each house is fitted with cameras, counters and meters. They’ll also be tracking the mileage they build up on the roads.

There is no hiding place as we measure the environmental impact of their water, waste, energy and food consumption. They’ll count their toilet flushes, investigate their bins, analyse their every meal and count the energy used by all of their domestic appliances. At the end of every week, all four families face a panel of experts and discover how much they’ve contributed to saving the planet.

What Planet Are You On ? is produced by Vision Independent Productions for RTÉ. The series is co-funded by RTÉ and Science Foundation Ireland.
