A local Sinn Féin representative is calling for common sense to prevail following a recent enforcement notice issued by a management company, warning residents of its intention to remove electrical vehicle infrastructure within 30 days.
Former councillor, Derren Ó Brádaigh said “In recent days it was brought to my attention that a number of residents in the Paddocks and Adamstown have received emails from their management company stating that all electrical vehicle charging stations will be removed. The notice titled ‘Prohibition of EV Chargers on Common Areas’ was circulated following growing numbers of on-street charging units amid a lack of communal charging units and clear guidelines for people in making the transition to electric cars.
Ó Brádaigh has continued to represent anyone that seeks his assistance and now acts as an unofficial representative and on behalf of his party since the local elections in 2024.
He said “I don’t believe the vast majority of people are deliberately or knowingly installing charging units without permission. This is occurring due to the lack of information in communicating policy by the local authority. Residents in the newer developments of Lucan are not flaunting the regulations. They are simply unable to obtain clear and concise guidelines, with lengthy delays by South Dublin County Council to take-in-charge many of the roads and paths further compounding the issue.
“I have written to the management company in question seeking further details and asking that they urge the owner management companies to collaborate with South Dublin County Council to find a solution that addresses the concerns of everyone involved. Whilst nobody can commandeer unallocated public parking spaces or alter a public pedestrian pavement without planning permission, I do believe that in the paucity of easy-to-understand guidelines, people are being misinformed and even misled by some of the information on offer by EV installers.
