Local Cllr Trevor Gilligan recently commented on the number of reports Fix Your Street has received in the last 2 year; “There has been a leap in queries submitted to South Dublin County Council(SDCC) via the Fix Your Street website and email system recently. Fix your street was set up to allow faster and easier communication between citizens and the local authority. SDCC replies to the queries submitted by residents. However, as illegal dumping and other issues become more prevalent, been more queries have been submitted to SDCC via the website. Between Mar 17 to Mar 18 there were 4142 queries. Between Mar 18 to Mar 19 there were 5,765 queries submitted through fix your street – a jump of over 28%.” Graffiti was the one issue that reports decreased in. One of the stark comparisons is the increase in reporting of illegal dumping from 1299 to 1955.
“There is a huge jump in relation to illegal dumping. It is imperative that more funding and resources is allocated to tackling this issue. Between the 1st of March 2017 & the end of Feb 2018 we received 842 Fix Your Street queries. Between 1st of March 2018 & the end of Feb 2019 we received 1115 queries on illegal dumping/litter. All queries received were investigated by our Litter Warden Service.” concluded Cllr Trevor Gilligan.
